OMV Refining & Marketing GmbH signs deal with j&m Management Consulting AG
With a group turnover of 7.64 billion euros and 6,137 employees in 2003 together with a current market
capitalisation of approximately 6 billion euros, the OMV corporation is the largest industrial company
listed on the stock exchange in Austria. As the leading crude oil and natural gas company in Eastern
Europe, the OMV group is active in 13 countries in the area of refineries and marketing (R&M).
Whilst creating an integrated supply chain intelligence system, OMV would like to use a redesign project
to optimise the already productive demand planning application on the basis of the experience which has
already been gained, with the aim of creating a closed flow of information and workflow for all planning
processes using the “Supply & Demand Manager”.
j&m Management Consulting was able to gain the upper hand over reputable competition during the tender
for the redesign project. The project, which commenced in late December, covers the following:
- Re-engineering of planning structures
- Extending functionality
- Improving support for the flow of information
- Optimising reporting possibilities in the area of demand planning
- Developing a convenient tool for the reorganisation of planning master data

We will keep you up to date on all the new developments in this project.

Advanced Material Handling at ACR Logistics in the UK
The logistics specialist ACR Logistics – has 17,500 staff in eleven European locations. j&m provided support for the conversion
to SAP R/3 at a multi-client warehouse complex in London which predominantly offers solutions for the
automotive branch.
As part of the project, handling unit management was introduced and j&m developed additional transactions for the mobile radio
frequency solution “SAP Radio Frequency“ (RF). Adjusted to suit local requirements, warehouse staff can now commission transactions
electronically and picking is done following optimised routes. Potential errors can be avoided in advance thanks to scanning and
online alarm signals as the staff work directly in real time in the SAP system via their mobile RF equipment, without using any
additional middleware.
j&m also provided assistance in connecting automatic high-rack warehouse vehicles and a pallet shrink wrapping unit to SAP.
Physical stocking procedures can now be controlled using RF transactions developed by j&m. Internal movements within the warehouse
are synchronised automatically, allowing complete transparency of stocks at all times. The process chain ends in an RF loading
check, by means of which the exact position of the pallets in the lorry are saved in the SAP system and communicated to the
client electronically or in the delivery documents.
The go-live in London in September 2004 follows on directly from the project completed successfully in April at a location in the
Netherlands. This project for one of ACR Logistics’ clients in the health care sector focussed on introducing an optimised,
RF-supported order picking system in which replenishments are controlled automatically.

Siemens Medical Solutions chooses j&m as implementation partner
The Medical Solutions division of Siemens AG chose j&m
Management Consulting AG as their implementation
partner for the migration of the Life-Programs & Installed Base and Collaboration Management
solutions to components of the SAP NetWeaver platform.
Life–Programs & Installed Base (Life PIB) is a key application for administering combined marketing
and sales programmes as well as clinical services in the area of customer care. The basis for this
is the equipment installed worldwide.
Collaboration Management (CM) supports the administration of contractual agreements with cooperation partners.
Siemens expects future-proof, easy maintenance and easily extendible applications for the migration
to the NetWeaver platform (SAP Web Application Server and
SAP Business Information Warehouse).
These will be incorporated into the global architecture of the Siemens MED Global Data Warehouse,
which allows synergies relating to existing data to be exploited. One of the major benefits of the
migration is the central use of master data and availability of data stored in Life PIB and CM for
cross-project reporting.

j&m assists Grammer AG in successfully implementing IFRS accounting
Working together with j&m, Grammer AG was able to successfully introduce parallel
accounting worldwide in compliance with IFRS (International Financial Reporting
Standards) with effect from 1st January 2005.
The project ran for a total of five months and covered the following topics:
- Drawing up detailed IFRS concept
- Implementing the detailed IFRS concept in the existing SAP system
- Preparation and support for going live
Josef Trettenbach, head of group accounting at Grammer, assesses the cooperation
between the companies as follows:
“The cooperation with j&m Management Consulting AG turned out to be very
efficient for Grammer. The discussion of the topics to be covered and the design
of the solution met with our utmost satisfaction, as did the timescale for the
realization of the IFRS project. Special emphasis ought to be put on the high
standards of the expertise and communication skills of the j&m consultants involved
in the project, which made the optimum realisation of the concepts and highly
effective cooperation with our employees possible.”
IFRS will
be the main method used across the company for consolidated accounts with effect
from the beginning of the new financial year. The main method for valuation used
in the individual accounts will remain local GAAP. IFRS accounts will be drawn up
at the end of each month. Accounts balanced using IFRS show the income statement
and follow the cost of sales accounting method. IFRS segmented according to business
divisions and cost of sale accounting shown according to functional areas have been
depicted in the existing SAP R/3 system using the FI-SL module.

Special: Integrated corporate planning on the basis of BW-BPS – Implementation of Beyond Budgeting
Conventional financial and budgeting planning is focused on fixed annual targets and is therefore relatively static when you
consider that the situation on the market can change during the course of the year and the strategic approach can be adjusted
accordingly. The concept behind beyond budgeting goes beyond fixing annual targets and is based on a rolling forecast which takes
the current expectations for each quarter into consideration.
This leads to a closer correlation between strategic and operational planning or, respectively, between quantity and value stream
planning. Changes in the logistical KPI’s are incorporated into financial planning in real time. At the same time, this forms
the basis for the introduction of a balanced scorecard applicable throughout the company.

SAP AG’s solution to the implementation of integrated corporate planning is the BW-BPS module (Business Planning and Simulation).
The main advantages of SAP BW-BPS are
- Flexible possibilities for planning and simulations
- Can be integrated and displayed directly in Excel
- Support for decentralised planning scenarios using web access
- Coherent planning functionality and data storage for various sub-plans
- Integrated planning consistency thanks to common data basis
- Creation of an integrated, single-sourced planning flow via standardised integration in SAP and non-SAP
systems
You can find further information on an implementation scenario based on SAP BW-BPS on our homepage www.jnm.de/corporate_planning.html
j&m Management Consulting AG can advise you on the design and implementation of integrated corporate planning and, in our capacity
as a Special Expertise Partner of SAP AG, the introduction of SAP BW-BPS.
